CLAT 2018 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

CLAT or Common Law Admission Test will be conducted by 18 National Law Universtities (NLU) for admission to various UG and PG courses. The CLAT 2018 will be conducted by NUALS Kochi (National University of Advanced Legal Studies Kochi). 

Here, we are giving the latest pattern and  detailed syllabus of CLAT examination.

CLAT  UG exam pattern
In the CLAT exam, there will be 200 Multiple Choice Questions for 200 Marks. The time duration will be 120 minutes or 2 hours.

For each correct answer, candidate will be awarded one mark and for each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CLAT 2018 Syllabus

We have understood the CLAT exam pattern. Now, we will see the CLAT syllabus for each subject/section. 

English including Comprehension:

The English section will check candidates proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. The grammar section needs correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling in blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.
  • English Vocabulary- Consisting of synonyms, antonyms, analogies.
  • English Proficiency- Consisting of Idioms & Phrases, fill in the blanks, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, and rearrangement of sentences in paragraph along with jumbled sentences.
  • English Usage errors- spot the error & correct the sentences, spelling mistakes, use the correct word.
  • English Comprehension- This section consists of a paragraph. Candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs:

  • Events of National and International importance also covering current events in the area of Economics, Science, Technology, Sports, Persons and Places, Books and Authors.

Mathematics:

  • Arithmetic (Number Theory): Number Systems, Surds and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions and Decimals, HCF and LCM, Simplification, Approximations, Ratio and Proportion, Average and Logarithms.
  • Commercial Maths: Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Partnership and Discounts.
  • Mensuration: Areas and Volumes.

Legal Aptitude:

  • International Law, Criminal Law, Indian Constitution, Legal Terms, Legal Maxims, Family Law, Contracts, and Torts.

Logical Reasoning:

  • Reasoning Tests: Direction and Distance Test, Analogy Test, Classification (Odd Man Out) Test, Coding-Decoding Test, Number Test, Series Test, Relationships Test, Alphabet Test, Ranking Tests and Time Sequence Test.
  • Logic Tests: Statements Assumptions, Statements Arguments, Statements Conclusions and Statements Action.

  1. Thank you for your answers. The CLAT exam pattern for LLB helped me start preparing and strategize and now there is no doubt in my mind. The information has been collated in a better way than information I found elsewhere. But, could you please provide for the date when I can download my admit card.
