CLAT 2017 TOPPER TIPS

Aspirants dreaming to get into the top law schools dedicated so many months in preparing for the CLAT. One of the toppers of CLAT 2017, Rajat Maloo from Jaipur who secured 154 marks out 196 had topped out of 48000 candidates with confidence and determination with 1^st rank.This CLAT topper’s key to success was to overcome the challenge of balancing speed with accuracy. His advice to the future CLAT aspirants is to regularly practice questions and take as many mock test as possible, keeping them refreshed with physical activities rather than wasting time in social media. Rajat had a perfect strategy for section-wise preparation. He added that the key strategy in preparation is to be confident about yourself and preparations done. In case of General Knowledge or Current affairs, you could follow all the national as well as international events, including sports. Read newspapers, magazines and online journals; not just for the GK but to improve language and vocabulary skills. When it comes to Legal Aptitude, you must refer the available books, online materials and read latest case orders; or focus on reading Indian constitution in detail.

The most important step in preparation for the exam is to take as many CLAT test series  as possible. Minimum two mock test is mandatory, so as to identify the mistakes or weaknesses and improve accordingly.

Another important strategy is the Time Management. Schedule the sections accordingly. Following was the strategy followed by this topper to divide the time for each section:

•       G.K: 5-10 minutes
• ·         Legal Aptitude:  25-30 minutes
• ·         English- 20 minutes; RCs excluded during the initial stage as they were time consuming
• ·         Maths-:15-20 minutes
• ·         Logical Reasoning: 25 minutes

The CLAT and AILET 2017 toppers, during a felicitation ceremony quoted that you should act in such a way that it is impossible to fail so as to assure success.

One of the CLAT toppers has some exclusive advice for those late starters.

CLAT topper, Swapnil Katiyar who scored an All India Ranking of 329 in CLAT 2016 and scored 97/150 in AILET. She said that starting late does not mean that you have lost it. You must have a clear idea about how you should prepare. Referring through the last years’ question papers would give clarity on setting a preparation strategy. 

Swapnil has exclusive tips for preparing the GK sections for the late starters. In case of G.K, it is not mandatory to memorize everything. Important events have to be focused. Discuss what you learned, with others. Discussing important points would help in retaining them for a longer period of time.

Swapnil had a unique strategy to study General Awareness section. She had used both conventional way as well as the newer shortcuts. She read daily news, either from the newspapers or apps like Inshorts or JagranJosh. Her answer to the question on whether an average student could also crack the CLAT was that the past performances in schools have no relevant role in the preparation of this exam. As long as one sets to work really hard, there is nothing impossible in cracking this exam.

There are some useful tips to study G.K as given by the topper:

G.K is the most scoring section in the CLAT exam, however highly unpredictable.

·       Find out the major topics covered in the G.K section. In the recent times, major portion was from the Current Affairs

·         Prepare short notes on recent appointments, announcements, important news etc. make sure these notes are revised every weekend.

·         Participate in online quizzes and discussions. You could know how the competitors are preparing and what all they refer.

·         Always check a good newspaper. The newspapers are always the best source to update and know what is happening around the world.

·         Watching interesting shows on news channels could be of great help in preparing for G.K section. Parliament sessions are strongly recommended in this case.
